Research and development

The Institute follows trends and invests in research and development in order to lead the way in the application of state-of-the-art technologies related to the production program of KONČAR companies and improve its own proprietary solutions for the global market.

Proprietary solutions

The advanced technical solutions of the Institute are the result of many years of experience and knowledge gained in the area of ​​power equipment and transport. Monitoring systems enable better management of primary power equipment and risk management. Our proprietary HW/SW platforms allow a longer life span of products.

Diagnostics, testing, calibration, and certification

The laboratory center consists of eight laboratories accredited for numerous testing methods according to the requirements of international standards and technical specifications. It is accredited according to the requirements of the standard HRN EN ISO IEC 17025, which confirms the independence and competence in providing laboratory and field product testing services.

Certification Service – SCERT is accredited according to the standard HRN EN ISO/IEC 17065 – Conformity assessment.

Business and investments in 2022

KONČAR – Electrical Engineering Institute operates stably and positively despite the increasing challenges and demands in the areas of power engineering and transport. Its economic growth is based on exceptional research and development services, competent and well-equipped laboratories, and competitive advanced technological solutions based on information and communication technologies.

It participates in research, development, testing, supervision, and expertise on a large number of KONČAR Group projects and plays an important role in the development of key electronic and energy components. In addition to supporting the Group’s companies, the Institute’s experts provide development and testing services for clients on the global market.

In 2022, the income from field tests and diagnostics was higher than planned, and the income from the Laboratory Center’s services has also increased. The most important export products and services were laboratory tests of high-voltage equipment, transformer, and conductor monitoring systems, rotating machine monitoring systems, and development services in the area of safety-critical built-in computer systems. Revenue from sales amounted to €13.17 million, 45% from testing, certification, and diagnostic services, 30% from own products, and 25% from research and development.

The Institute operates exclusively with its own funds and is not exposed to interest, credit, and liquidity risks. The Institute’s short-term assets are 4.3 times higher than short-term liabilities, and 53% of short-term assets are financial assets and money, which, together with open liabilities after the end of the business year, guarantees stable operations of the Institute in the coming period as well.

Investment in fixed assets amounted to €4.35 million and in software and development €7,963. Investment maintenance of equipment and buildings amounted to €196,430. Investment in education with total justified costs (tuition fees, registration fees, professional literature, and official trips related to training) amounted to €88,924. The cost of licenses, patents, and software maintenance was €281,372.
