IFIA Trophy and Golden ARCA 2013 Awards for the invention “Electrical Machines Black Box“.

On the 11th International Innovation Exhibition ARCA 2013 held in Zagreb from 3 to 5 October this year, President of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) presented the IFIA Trophy for the best invention: Electrical Machines Black Box. Its inventors are Ante Elez, Josip Študir, Josip Polak, and Ivan Poljak from Končar – Electrical Engineering Institute.

The inventors received for the same invention also the ARCA 2013 Golden Award.

Electrical Machines Black Box is a device that performs measuring and monitoring of various parameters (stator voltage and currents, excitation current, vibrations, temperatures, rotating speed, etc.) which are used for further analysis to gather reliable information about the failures and non-standard usage of the equipment, like e.g. a black box in an airplane.

Black Box detects and records fallowing harmful working conditions: asynchronous operation, incorrect synchronization, significant asymmetry, two-phase operation, run-out, overloading, overheating, extensive vibrations of generator housing, number of machine starts, etc. These non-standard conditions represent a significant electromagnetic and thermal stress to the machine, which greatly reduces its lifetime. By equipping machines with this specific system, users can easily get important information that can without additional analysis inform users about the condition and usage of the machine from the time of system installation.
