Databases

Center for Online Databases is a project of Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (MSES), CARNet and Ruđer Bošković Institute. Its main purpose is to provide access via Internet to commercial and free-access databases for all the members of the scientific and research community in the Republic of Croatia (researchers, teachers and students). In choice of databases it is attempted to cover the most important databases for each field of science.

List and description of databases accessible via the Centre for Online Databases

In INDOK you can make database searches either alone or with help of a librarian. More complex searches should be announced.

TYPES OF DATABASES

Bibliographic databases

Bibliographic databases contain information about papers published in various publications. Bibliographic records of such papers usually contain the information such as the name of the author, the title, the name of the publication in which it has been published, year of publication, abstract, author’s affiliation, language of the original etc. Such brief information is very convenient for quick survey of a large number of papers.

Citation databases

Citation databases are in essence also bibliographic, but their distinctive feature is that they besides the papers as such contain also lists of all kinds of references (citations, books, papers etc.) the author gives at the end of a paper. Because they clearly show which scientist is the most quoted, popular etc. in a certain field, these bases are an unavoidable source for each scientist (e.g. Current Contents, Web of Science etc.)

Full-text databases

Full-text databases enable viewing of the entire text of a paper. In most cases they are digital collections of journals issued by various publishing companies (e.g. Springer, ScienceDirect etc.)
