Monitoring System of Synchronous Generators

Project start: January 2007

Abstract

The known diagnostic methods enable the detection of faulty conditions in synchronous generators. They can also predict their occurrence without the need for machine disassembly. The premise of such diagnostic methods is that the process values for different faults can be obtained through electromagnetic calculation on synchronous generator models by 2D and 3D (FEM) numerical calculation of the magnetic field.

The measurement of process values and related phenomena, as well as measurement comparison to the calculated values, significantly increase the probability to detect faulty conditions or a cause of their occurrence. In order to verify these hypotheses, an experimental system for the on-line monitoring of signals provided by various sensors installed on the hydro-generator will be designed.

Moreover, an information communication unit for signal acquisition, processing, and data representation will be developed and eventually, the measurements will be conducted and the results will be compared.
