SafeLog

Human-Robot Collaboration in a Safe and flexible Warehouse

Končar – Electrical Engineering Institute cooperates in the HORIZON 2020 project “Safe human-robot interaction in logistic applications for highly flexible warehouses” or shortened SafeLog.

HORIZON 2020 is the largest development and innovation program of the EU whose purpose is through an investment of 80 billion EUR over seven years (2014-2020) to attract private investment, stimulate research, and to achieve economic growth and job creation through their industrial implementation.

The project started on 1st January 2016 and will last for a total of four years.

The goal of the SafeLog project

The goal of the SafeLog project is to provide secure interaction between people and robots in flexible logistics centers. In existing systems, security is achieved either by completely separating people and robots, and cooperation is not possible or by equipping robots with security systems that significantly raise the price.

SafeLog concept

The SafeLog concept is based on a safety vest that, in communication with superior logistics systems and individual robots, ensures the safety of the person who carries it and the optimum performance of the whole system.

The SafeLog system develops a holistic and certifiable safety concept based on a safety vest, which allows the collaboration of AGVs and humans. A strong emphasis is given to planning and scheduling algorithms for a heterogeneous fleet manager. Augmented reality-based interaction strategies are developed to support workers in a robotized warehouse system.

Our role in the project

KONČAR – Institute has been involved in this project thanks to its extensive experience in the development of safety-critical installation systems for rail applications. The task of the KONČAR – Institute in the project is to develop a safety vest and its security certification.

Partners

Other partners involved in the project are the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology University and Research Center, Swisslog – one of the world’s leading automation and logistics solutions providers, Technical University of Prague, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, and the Fraunhofer Institute of Material and Logistics.
