At the Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Awards 2012 held on 19th June 2012 in London, KONČAR – Electrical Engineering Institute Inc. and Vipnet won the prestigious award in the Wireless Network Structure category for the implementation of a hybrid base station project.
The initiative to implement a hybrid system, known under the commercial name of KONČAR Hybrid Power Supply, was taken and driven forward by Vipnet, while the technical solution was developed by KONČAR – The Croatian Electrical Engineering Institute Inc.
This award-winning solution is unique as it uses renewable energy sources to power remote base stations and fuel cells to generate electricity in addition to solar and wind power. Vipnet has already installed several base stations using this type of power supply in the Slavonija region of Croatia. The rollout of additional green base stations is planned also in other Croatian regions.
